Police said the 43-year-old was talking on her mobile phone in Corporation Park, Blackburn, when she was attacked.

An Asian man, thought to be in his 30s or 40s, grabbed her around the mouth at about 8pm on Thursday.

The victim dropped her phone, which broke, but she was able to fight off her attacker and get help.

Det Insp Jill Johnston, of Blackburn CID, said police were appealing for witnesses to come forward.

She said: “Luckily, the woman managed to push him off and shout at him and he walked away.

“The victim was white so I am keeping my options open about motives.

“I am not ruling anything out, be it a racial or sexual attack or an attempted robbery.

The defendants, mostly from High Wycombe, will appear before Oxford Crown Court on Monday for a trial expected to last at least five weeks.

The charges – which range from rape and trafficking to conspiracy to rape and encouraging or assisting the commission of an offence – stretch back to 2007 when the alleged victim, who cannot be named, was 12.

The ten denied the accusations at a plea and case management hearing held at Oxford Crown Court in March. They were all released on bail.

She went on: “I think the vast majority are men but there are a couple of women who might have been facilitating exploitation.”

As a result of our inquiries, police chiefs admitted to at least 54 investigations.

Out of 43 forces in England and Wales, 31 responded to our request for information.

Until we properly address the fact that the perpetrators of these most recent high-profile crimes are almost exclusively Asian, then society will continue to be complicit in them.

An obsession with political correctness let down terribly the Oxford teenage girls who were victims of a despicable gang of abusers.

The fear of being branded racist meant no one would dare to state the obvious; indeed care home staff whose job it was to protect the underage, vulnerable girls, instead allowed them to be picked up at the door.

Clearly, the prevailing attitude was that these girls were merely “white trash” deserving nothing better than to be passed around as playthings to satisfy the cravings of this group of Asian men.

It beggars belief that until last week, no one appeared to condemn these crimes not only for their appalling sexual nature but also for their inherent racial prejudice.

Can you imagine the outcry if it had been gangs of white men preying on vulnerable Asian girls?

Yet both white and Asian communities stayed silent, presumably agreeing that these troubled runaways, “Chavs” some might call them, were not worth rescuing from sexual slavery.

It is depressing beyond words.

A group of seven men were found guilty at the Old Bailey last week of a catalogue of offences, against girls as young as 11, including conspiracy to rape, child prostitution and trafficking over an eight-year period in the university city of Oxford.

Schoolgirls were plucked from the streets and care homes to be drugged, raped and sold into prostitution.

But the mother of two members of the gang, brothers Akhtar Dogar, 32, ad Anjum Dogar, 31, has claimed one of the victims was not ‘pressurised’.

She also asked why the authorities allowed the abuse to take place and spoke of her shame at being associated with the case, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

Akhtar and Anjum were convicted at the Old Bailey last week along with another set of brothers Mohammed Karrar, 38, and Bassam Karrar, 33, as well as Kamar Jamil, 27, Assad Hussain, 32, and Zeeshan Ahmed, 27.

Speaking at her home in Oxford, the mother of the Dogar brothers said: ‘These girls should be playing with toys. If they start (having sex) at ten, by 15 they are proper ladies.’

She described how news reports suggested the girls travelled from Oxford to London on the train and suggested they were therefore ‘old enough’.

She said one of the girls was ‘looking’ for a boy at a London station, adding ‘no one pressurised her’.

She said: ‘Nobody can feel sorry for them unless they’re sorry themselves.’

And why – even after all the sickening stories of those Oxford schoolgirls having babies aborted with hooks, being repeatedly gang-raped, beaten, branded and burned with cigarettes – are people STILL shying away from saying exactly what kind of crimes these are?

Because what happened to these girls can’t just be chucked in the box marked “general sex crimes”.

These gang atrocities in Oxford – just like the ones in Rochdale, Derby and Telford – were the very worst kind of ­racially motivated hate crimes committed by Muslim men who’ve been taught to believe that white women are worthless trash and deserve to be punished for their “decadent” Western lifestyle, i.e. wearing make-up and short skirts.

And while most Muslim clerics have stayed silent on this, while our wider society refuses to acknowledge what these crimes are REALLY about, only Dr Taj Hargey, imam of the Oxford Islamic congregation, had the courage to stick his head above the parapet and say what happened to these girls WAS racially motivated and illustrates the deep- seated hatred some Muslim men have for white women.

“Some people are saying the predators’ religion was an irrelevance. But that’s deluded nonsense,” he says.

So why aren’t the police saying that? Why aren’t Oxford social services? Because only when the ugly truth is acknowledged – that in supposedly integrated Britain, some ­Muslim men (NOT necessarily Asian men) are ­targeting young white girls to abuse and degrade – can the problem be tackled.

This gang didn’t rape Muslim women, because they knew they’d be ostracised by their community and hunted down by the girls’ families.

But having seen how our gutless authorities operate on issues involving race, they knew they could defile white girls however and wherever they chose.

Time and again these terrified teenagers begged Thames Valley police for help but were turned away. As were their tormented parents.

Even staff at children’s homes where some of these girls were living knew exactly what was happening.

And they didn’t just ignore the abuse, they facilitated it… with one staff member actually buying kinky underwear for a girl she KNEW was being sold for sex.

And it’s no good these organisations now bleating they didn’t do enough. We KNOW that. What we want to know is why the bosses of those organisations still have jobs?

Thames Valley Chief constable Sara Thornton (£160,000 a year) has refused to resign, saying: “My focus is now on moving forward.”

Who cares about HER moving forward? What about those abused girls who can never move forward and who, no matter how much therapy they have, will forever be lost souls unable to trust or forge a loving relationship?

The teenager was walking along Waller Avenue close to the BT Telephone Exchange when she was approached by the offender who started talking to her and walking alongside.

He then attempted to kiss the victim but she pulled away, so he grabbed her bottom before running away.

The offender is described as an Asian male, in his mid-teens, around 5ft 1 inch tall and of slender build.

The incident happened in Marlborough Road at approximately 1.15pm on Thursday 16 May.  A 16-year-old girl was approached in the street by a man who began talking to her and then swore at her.  The victim walked off.

The man is described as of Asian appearance, mid-thirties in age, approximately 5’7” tall and was wearing large black glasses and a bright red jumper.

Nabila Sharma tells how she suffered years of abuse from an Imam at the mosque she attended as a child. The 36-year-old sales rep, from the Midlands, hopes her story will help to stop others from having to ‘suffer in silence’.

I WAS abused almost every day between the ages of seven and 11.

My abuser was the leader of my mosque, the Imam.

One day, he asked me to come to his room, as he lived at the mosque.

I found this strange, but he said I could read to him and get ahead with my prayers before the others arrived.

Inside his room, he began touching my face and stroking my hair, telling me what a pretty little girl I was.

I was only seven, I didn’t understand what he was doing other than I knew I didn’t like it. It made me uncomfortable.

He began singling me out for little jobs. People thought I was teacher’s pet but he was actually isolating me from everyone else.

In no time, he was touching me everywhere. I tried to push him away but I didn’t dare say I didn’t like it.

I didn’t know what to say to a grown-up about it. I’d rehearse what I was going to say to Mum, then I’d get home and not know how to get the words out of my mouth.

Everyone thought I was safe at the mosque. I’d get home from school, change clothes, get my scarf and prayer book and then off I’d go.

I had tantrums, saying I didn’t want to go, but my parents just put it down to my age – and I’d still have to go.

As I got older, Mum would drop me off outside and I’d sometimes skive off, spending hours wandering round the local graveyard.

But I was scared to do that too often, in case the Imam rang my parents to ask where I was.

I challenged the imam once, saying ‘if you do it again, I will tell my Dad’.

The way he reacted was terrifying. He rang my dad there and then, and had a chat with him.

I was so scared I wet myself in front of him. I’d done that a couple of times before as I’d been so frightened but he’d just laugh at me.

He used to come to our house for dinner. He had so much power, he knew no-one was ever going to believe me.

He’d give me money, shiny new pound coins as a reward. I couldn’t explain where I’d got this money from to my parents.

I was scared they’d think I’d stolen it. I had no idea of the value of it.

I’d go to a shop to try to get rid of it and buy a 10p mix of sweets – then still have all my change. That money became an extra fear for me. Then one day, when I was 11, the Imam got me on top of his bed, grabbed me and started pulling my trousers down.

I thought I was going to die.

Suddenly we heard a door go downstairs. Someone had come in so he quickly got off me and allowed me back downstairs.

I do believe if that person hadn’t come in, I would have been raped that day.

I think the Imam had thought that because I was older, he could progress the abuse.

There was another little girl who the Imam did it to. She left after a couple of weeks.

Mum and I went over to their house.

When we got there Mum said ‘You go and play’ and when I came back the atmosphere was different.

In the car, Mum turned to me and asked ‘Why didn’t you tell me?’

I was in trouble for not telling her, and it was never talked about again.
